This weekend I decided to see the line for myself and see what would jump out the most from my unique point of view. The shocker: the amount of cars I saw crossing the lines that had those yellow "I support the troops" ribbons on their cars. So, you support the troops, but not your nurses? Interesting, or maybe not so interesting.
Last spring, I was took a sample on why people have ribbons on their cars. Amazingly, about 50% thought Iraq had WMD and was an immediate threat. 20% had a direct family member or loved one in Iraq, while the rest weren't necessary supporting the US policies, but see the importance of still supporting the young men and women over seas. The first 50% almost all gave the same, zombie like, homogeneous answer. I was just waiting for the to say. "Brains, need more Brains"
So, I guess I should not be so surprised people would support something they know little about, while they bring their mother into a hospital working under unsafe working conditions.
Note: Sample was from the Lansing area. Poll not scientific.

Welcome, Jeff, welcome! Welcome to the world of the truly informed citizens of this country. We tend to be Liberals, Progressives and/or Democrats who use our brains for the purpose they were intended. Ignorance is bliss. You’ve obviously left the world of blissful ignorance and arrived at “Informed Enlightenment”. …sucks, doesn’t it? ~CT/NY
