The strike continues at Ingham Regional Medical Center. Here's an update:
Replacement nurses are over staffed, basically its taking 2 or 3 nurses to get the job done that was given to only one unionized nurse. So, to get this right, McLaren will give the replacements more staff, but not the regular nurses. Interesting. Problem with this, is that the replacements are going to tire real quick, unless they rotate in more nurses. Then the learning curve starts all over again.
Replacement nurses make $40 per hour for crossing a picket line.
Reports that the hospital is like a ghost town on some floors. This will explain why there have been no major problems.
I've talked a bit about training in my last entry. To expand on that, Ingham has Unique system to give meds, telemetry readings, and a brand new (and crappy) computer system that the replacements need to learn. The problem is that the people that teach these systems and many many more, are also on strike. So think of the blind leading the blind.
Contract talks will no longer be conducted face-to-face, but rather through a moderator.
