In the news last night and today I (as a U.S. Citizen) find yet another illegal act committed by our president in the name to fight terrorism. I'm talking about the wire taps on US citizens without court warrants and Congress approval. I don't want to regurgitate what the news has already done but ask some questions that people are forgetting to ask.
If we had these taps in place, could we have prevented 9/11?
No one really could answer this question due to not enough info, and too many variables.
How many people have been falsely tapped so far?
Bush defended there is little time to get the proper warrant in place, we need to act fast. Well, how long does it take to setup a tap anyways?
Last I knew, you don't just wave a magic wand and you tapping the bad guys at random. While your eye-balling someone, why aren't you getting the proper paper work in order? Heck, last I knew you could do it after the investigation.
Could 9/11 been prevented without the taps?
YES. From what I read from The 9/11 Commission Report the warning signs were everywhere. Simple answer, we were caught with our heads up our ass.
Perhaps once we admit that little tidbit of info we can get some of our freedom back. If terrorism is about taking away our freedom, then they are winning. The people should tap the president and get some real answers. On second thought, the dude is so in the dark, we probably wouldn't get much.

If terrorists are always changing their phone numbers, and the phone service is always giving us old numbers due to the number crunch. The chances of a bad tap are increased to a ridiculous amount.
Next, If this act by the president is legal because we are in a time of war, how do we define war?
Is it a...
War with Iraq? no.
War with N. Korea? no.
War on terrorism? Well sure, but we still have a War on Drugs, and a War on Poverty. War on terror is a war that never ends, because there is no clear victory, unlike a war with another country. So perhaps the rules need to be changed to define the word "war".
