While watching Michigan's State of the State address last week by Governor Granholm, I found myself tossing just about anything within arms reach at the TV. Taxing middle class services like movies and haircuts while increasing property taxes! Meanwhile, increase funding on educating Michigan youth on high tech services. I think we have decent education already in Michigan. The problem is keeping the tech savvy and other well educated folks in the state. Something the governor forgot to propose. Market the State!
Course as I was cleaning up all the stuff I was tossing, I realized this is the first time I yelled a political address for honesty. Usually these addresses are full of BS & BS (that's bullshit and back slapping). So, I give her points for admitting to a problem. That, and she has been marketing the state in the past, but how do you compete with sunny Florida and California, while our pipes are bursting in Michigan because its so darn cold?
Anyways, Michigan does have some leaders in many House and Senate committees. Carl Levin is Chairing the Armed Forces for the Senate, John Dingell chairs the Energy and Commerce in the house, and John Conyers chairs the judiciary in the house. I'm not totally clear on all their duties and how much pull they truly have, but it seems our governor should not let this opportunity go to waste.

Uhmm... About your comment on marketing the State of Michigan... Wouldn't it be best/more cost effective to advertise outside of the State in order to bring business into the State? If you agree, then wouldn't you need to actually BE in another State in order to know if Michigan is actually marketing itself? FYI, there's an ad on TV about Michigan's tech-savy population base and facilities that's being shown here in the metropolitan New York area. (I think I saw it on MSNBC.) Sadly, it looks like that wacky-liberal Democratic Governor of Michigan is doing her job.
Stay the course! Our Republican President and Commander in Chief is making the right decisions! -CT/NY
