That's the question every Michigan resident should be asking today. Where did John Engler run off to? A little history, John Engler was the Governor of Michigan from 1991 to 2003. Thats a lot of time to form the state into ones beliefs and vision. So, what great legacy did this governor leave the state of Michigan in? Well we're seeing it now. Debt, unemployment, and folks fleeing the state at record paces. Its easy to blame the current governor of the problems in the state, but that is simply not true. It all started....
...during the Engler reign. He simply got in bed with the auto industry, and promised business as usual. But simply put, that's just not how things work in a dynamic economy. 'Business as usual' is as flawed as looking the other way when something nasty is coming at you from down the street.
Right now, the number one reason for our unemployment, is because the auto industry is making the obvious and high predictable cut-backs. This in turns, effects other fortune 500 Michigan companies, that are auto supply companies. Tack on auto warehousing, logistic companies, etc...and you get a shit load of grief.
So this is the current Governers fault? Pleeaaaaase. Do the math. Simply put, Engler fucked Michigan. He screwed the state so bad, this native born MSU graduate ran for the hills after he left office. If this guy loved the state, he would continue to help us, instead he just left the state, like so many others. So were is this guy, who needs to be help accountable? He's currently the President & CEO of the National Association of Manufacturers...a lobbying group on capital hill. where he's credited for an unusually high rate of turnover among employees[1], seen its influence with small manufacturers decline[2], and been involved in questionable grants from the U.S. Government[3]. Business as usual indeed. Thanks John.
What's sad, whoever takes office in the white house, will be the acting fall-guy for the economic mess of the Bush administration, much like Grandholm is the fall-gal for the state of Michigan.
