Ok, so gas is at 16th record highs today, and gas stations with 5 cents less the norm have to put out traffic cones to coordinate the lines of traffic. Food, manufacturing, etc all are going up, all due to gas prices. Bush, I thought, was hiding in a corner on the subject, until I heard him blasting the House over not drilling in Alaska. There's a novel idea, it'll take years to build the infrastructure (done (peak) in 2025 if started today), then when finished, give the American gas consumers a whopping ~2 cent per gallon break*. Leave it to Bush, to think of Chaney's retirement, and screw the American people.
So what about the candidates? McCain/Clinton would like to cut the gas taxes. Never mind, the tax goes toward road/bridge repair. And if you live in the northern states, you know how bad the frost/thaw was on the roads this year. And we'd get, what...18 cents off per gallon. Since when did thinking stop for both sides? We need $2.00 off gas, not $.20! Oh yeah, as said before...Gas keeps going up, so under this plan, you'll be paying repairs on you axles due to the pot holes, and still pay more for gas.
Damn, some people just don't get it. We've created tyrants in countries like Venezuela, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Iran over our greed for oil. And in todays technological age, we really have no excuse for this. Candidates are looking for a quick fix. And we have one...Yes we have one now.
Our government needs to bring back tax incentives for Hybrid cars...something the Bush administration cut. In addition, offer government rebates for Hybrids or any type of vehicle that can pull 45mpg. Hell, make it on only American cars if you want to stimulate "our" economy. We need something to bring down the costs of these vehicles. None-the-less, if I'm paying half the price for gas then I do now, because I have a 45mpg vehicle, I have created instant gas relief at the pump. In addition, I've also lowered the reliance on foreign oil. Quick fix...problem solved...for now.
And for Gods sake, stop the talk about biofuels. Just a bad, non-sustainable idea.
