McCain fails at Power Plant

For once, I thought I'll get a timely current event blog out. So here it is.

McCain yesterday visited the Enrico Fermi Atomic Power Plant near Monroe Michigan. In his speech he praised nuclear power, encouraged more plants, and criticized his opponent for not encouraging more nuke plants.

So here's the rub...wonder why McCain toured plant 2, instead of plant 1? Well, at that very same location, we almost had a melt down that would have nuked Detroit and a good chunk of Windsor. Even better, was how the authorities tried to brush the story under the rug back when it occurred. You gotta love the irony of McCain touting safety at a place that almost went Nova due to negligence. His speech at Fermi, is no different then if he held his speech at Idaho Falls or Three Mile Island. For a lighter read on the subject, check out John Fuller's book.

Here's a side tidbit on Nuclear power plants. We still have no clue what to do with nuclear waste that is generated from the plants, nor do we have any idea what the long term effects are. In addition, If you think nuke power will lower the price of energy...think again. Even after the plant is no longer in service, you'll be paying for the cleanup and disposal of that waste we are clueless about, for 100s of years later.

A bonus thought... didn't we learn on 9/11 how vulnerable we are? Note: terrorist chose NOT to attack any of our atomic plants, as their targets were the government and corporate/financial infrastructure and not the people. What if someone crazier comes along?
