Memoirs of a Homeowner

Well, We have survived one week as home owners living in the pseudo-country. Having been born in the urban jungle of Detroit, the adjustment can be quite the culture shock. Fortunately, living 12 years in Lansing, a pseudo-city, helped pad the change a bit. Here are some observations:

~ An open field can be beautiful.
~ Spiders are bigger, and hairier.
~ Hard water sucks, soft water sucks.
~ There are no police.
~ Bats and wasps in my hood don't play nice.
~ House makes different noises, I think its hungry.
~ Roosters don't caw at the sun rise, cows do.
~ "My god, its full of stars", the sky that is.
~ Plumbers are your friend, Cable guys are pricks
~ So its true, The grass really is greener over the septic field.

Your comment about your house being "hungry" is profound. Homes -- like humans, are constantly in need of being fed. The key is to "feed" your home good things to increse its value (like muscle tone, stamina, etc). Termites, dry-rot, leaky windows, roof and/or basement, etc. from a neglectful owner is like an out of shape humanbeing. The benefits of a "healthy house" -- like a healthy human body, equals many future rewards. (ie, increased value!)
