I'll admit, I don't really follow all the hype of Hollywood, even around Oscar time. But something about the Oscars caught my attention this time around. The Short Animation Award was once that one award that any common person could win. You simply think of something good, animate it, and whola! You have your moment of fame in an otherwise elitist money demanding club. Yet looking at the nominations this year I learned of an underlying secret. Most of the nominations were done by large film groups. Lifted was by Pixar, Matchgirl by Disney, and No time for Nuts by 20th Century Fox.
There is a happy ending here. The little known; Danish Poet, took the prize. Perhaps the academy needs to rummage through YouTube for next years nominations.
