That's the question, as the Michigan primaries roll into town next week. It's old news now, how Michigan moved up the date in the primaries to get a voice to a state that actually has some diversity. Course, the problem, the Democrats deemed this against their rules, resulting in a pull out from Obama and Edwards. So who are the winners and losers from this mess? Here's my take:
Winner:
Romney - The dude needs a win, and Michigan is his best chance so far (born in Detroit, dad was Gov, etc). If Romney wins Mi, the atmosphere would have been way different if Mi primary was later.
Clinton - She didn't pull her name, so she's a sure thing. Also shows she's willing to break the rules to get ahead, something a president will have to do (er... within the Constitution).
People of Michigan - We don't have to listen to Democratic political ads, just Republican ads.
Losers:
Republicans - Dems will weigh in on the Republican ticket. Last time this happened, McCain won, regardless of the promise former Gov Engler made to Bush...hence is why Engler fell off the political planet.
Obama and Edwards - Instant loss
State Minorities - These include blacks, and Native born Iraqis that are now US citizens. Michigan has a high population of both groups, hence the main reason that Mi moved the state up in date. Yet these groups loose their voice in the Democratic polling.
Gov Ganholm - She comes off looking incompetent right now, even though this may have been the best move for our state. People tend to have short term memories.
