"Our algorithms use a wide range of information to predict the queries users are most likely to want to see. For example, Google Suggest uses data about the overall popularity of various searches to help rank the refinements it offers."So I decided to see what sort of pattern people are searching for when they type in this years Primary Candidates. What interests the people the most? Google Suggest generally gives you 10 results to pick from, so I ran a search both using a last name, and a first last name. I filtered out irrelevant results like, McCain Foods, so some candidates may have more results than others. Here are the results for the leading runners in both parties:
Obama:
for President, biography, girl, Muslim, religion, Oprah, campaign, issues, 08, quotes, wiki, kindergarten
Analysis: This helps to show the ignorance of the majority, where people think he's Muslim because of his name. I'd hope they learned more after searching. "Girl" is a internet viral video which shows the power of Youtube this year. It would also seem folks are getting a kick off an attack that Hillary made regarding comments Obama made back when he was in kindergarten. Ouch.
Clinton:
Nutcracker, for President, hostage, campaign, biography, website, jokes, quotes, bomb
Analysis:
Even with her teary eyed moment in NH, she still can't break the image of being a ball breaker. The Nutcracker is an actual nutcracker that looks like Hillary, and yes, it breaks the nuts between her thighs. People seem to be obsessed with the Hostage situation back in November in one of her offices (hence hostage & bomb). To go along with the Nutcracker, jokes seem to be popular too. Note, Bush too gets "jokes" as a keyword hit via Google suggest, making Hillary true candidate material.
Romney:
Speech, For President, Religion Speech, Mormon, Mormon speech, bio, faith in America, speach video, faith speech, speech transcript, speech text
Analysis: Geez. His keywords are riddled with various ways to say speech. Its not clear if that religious speech he gave is a boost, or a shadow for him. I'd say a shadow, because thats all that people see he is now...a Mormon...with no interest in issues.
McCain:
For President, biography, age, Feingald, 2008, POW, wiki, campaign, on the issues, abortion, Feingold act, on abortion
Analysis:
McCain has some history, so he gets a good mix of hits. Feingald was an Act about campaign reform, and the reason we all get to hear "...and I support this message" at the end of all campaign ads. There seems to be genuine concern about his age...yes he is the oldest runner and could be the oldest president. I suspect abortion comes up, because Dems backed him over Bush last time he ran for president, just as many Dems support him this round. He's also the only republican with an adoption package to help out if abortion was abolished.
Huckabee:
For president, norris, chuck norris, evolution, president, weight loss, polls, rapist, & Chuck Norris, Dumond, wiki, aids, on the issues, campaign, fat, fair tax
Analysis: At some point, Huck needs to dump Norris. Seriously, how many Total Gyms did this guy have to buy anyways? Huckabee doesn't sign onto evolution, which gives him the boost in the Jesus Camps, but ultimately makes him look like a fool. Speaking of fool, his comment about quarantine Aids victims, and pardon recommendation of convicted rapist Dumond are also shadowing his keywords. Fair Tax would abolish income Tax and the IRS, move to a 30%+ sales tax. This would be fun..I think I'll buy all my shit in Canada or over the internet. Well...at least he's for a healthy America...but could Chuck Norris do better than Arnold Schwarzenegger? I think not.
Overall: This really gives a unique view into this years candidates. I'm glad Bio and "For President" was consistent for all candidates. But was nice to see "On the issues" and "Wiki" for some. Only 2 candidates have clear Star appeal using Chuck Norris and Oprah. I hope this list helps all those undecided.
