Death to Dictators

2006 had its share of famous deaths, but lets not forget about all the dictators that also went down in 2006.



Lets see, first there's Augusto Pinochet, president of Chile. Backed by the Nixon administration, this dude was responsible for killing 3,000 and torturing more then 30,000 of his own people. All in the name to fight communism.


Then there was Slobodan Milosevic of Serbia, "Butcher of the Balkans". Best known for the ethnic cleansing of Albanians and genocide in Bosnia during the Yugoslav Wars. I don't have any estimates of deaths (tens of thousands of bodies were found dumped unceremoniously in mass graves), but anytime I see the words "rape camps", I'm officially sickened. Clinton backed NATO helped weaken the dude from power back during the Kosovo War in 1999. Note to Self: The United States helped the Albanians, who are primarily Muslim, guess that means we only dislike Muslims that live on piles of oil. Slobbo died in 2006 of a guilty hearty, before he could be convicted at the Hague.


Lastly, I can think of Saddam Hussein. Most notorious for gassing Kurds resulting in the killing over 5,000 and grotesquely injuring 10,000 in one attack, millions more were to die in the Iran/Iraq War. We know enough of this dude, so no reason to go on about him. Course, now that he's out of power, his country has been deemed more dangerous then it was before.

Course, when it comes to how safe our world is, it really depends on who's point of view your looking at, and who's God your praying to. For every evil person that dies, we seem to find or make two new ones. While, people that claim to be good (just watched Jesus Camp) are some of the most horrendous folks I can imagine. Perhaps, we're fated to make the same mistakes over and over.
