Lost View of the Tower

Wh
ile MSU is making final decisions on the fate of a decaying visible icon, a different view of a university structure will be silenced without fanfare. I'm referring to the view of Beaumont Tower that can be seen along the Red Cedar Rd corridor. With the construction of the new Morrill Hall (Well Hall extension), this view will be no more. For years, visitors that drive in via the Trowbridge entrance have been greeted by a fabulous view of the tower as they round the corner onto Red Cedar Rd. In a way, it reminded me of MSU's version of France's historical axis, or a drive to the Lansing Capital, where you can see the building of interest, in the middle of the road. While the image from my crummy camera doesn't capture how awesome the view had been, it gives the general idea. While recent tree cover has hidden some of the view, the Red Cedar River had a reputation for downing trees over time with its erosion. This will certainly be a view that will be missed.

MSU Social Media Riot
Is MSU on the verge of its first online riot? The once famed riot school, known for its rowdy celebrations during basketball season, is at it again. Only this time, they are taking it online. Why? It has to do with a new spartan logo that was posted at the US Patent Office. This logo found by an "anonymous" fan that was trolling the MSU Patents. They then posted the logo on a unofficial MSU fan forum site. The disapproval for change was so overwhelming, the University has since released an official statement. Now Spartan fans are uniting, with a facebook account called "Just Don't" mocking the possibility that Nike had a major hand in this new logo change, simply to sell more merchandise. In less then 24 hours, the facebook site has over 5,000 users on it.
I remain neutral on this matter, and to-date, still don't own a Facebook account!
[EDIT: The new logo has been canned, thanks to the social uproar and mass emails folks sent out. Amazing.]
